La Puebla de Los Infantes (Sevilla) is a perfect destination for rural tourism. It's a beautiful town on the high plateau of the Sierra Norte de Sevilla and specifying its location, you will find this small town in the border area with the province of Córdoba, sheltered from the Vega del Guadalquivir.
Do you know that it's considered the gateway to the Sierra Norte de Sevilla? This natural space is classified as a Biosphere Reserve since it offers refuge to a large number of birds, some in danger of extinction, such as the black stork and even, in more hidden areas, the Iberian lynx. Also, if you fancy outdoor activities, this mountain range is an ideal place for it, especially those related to water, since La Puebla del Infante is home to two reservoirs: Retortillo and José Torán.
Now, we tell you something about its history since its vast heritage is due to the different cultures that have populated its lands. Proof of this is the Dehesillas site, exhibited in the National Archaeological Museum due to its great importance.
It has been inhabited by Muslims and, it was later reconquered. It has managed to preserve a great variety of ancient monuments.
Would you like to take a walk around the town? The starting point can be the Castillo de Cañebolo, located in the highest part of the municipality with magnificent views. It was built between 1330 and 1344 in a mixture of Gothic and Mudejar styles, forming a robust defensive complex.
The Church of Nuestra Señora de las Huertas is also part of its cultural wealth. It was built at the end of the 15th century, presenting Mudejar motifs. On the outskirts, you can visit the oldest hermitage in the town dedicated to the same virgin.
Other points of interest are the Hermitage of Santiago next to the castle, which is dated in the fourteenth century or the one dedicated to Santa Ana, from the end of the fifteenth century in the square that bears the same name.
On the other hand, the meeting point is the La Pila public laundries, which was formerly used as a space for washing clothes, apart from being a meeting area for the inhabitants of the town.
What is the most typical thing in your gastronomy? Meat, Iberian sausages, farm products, such as asparagus or mushrooms, are the main ingredients. Some of the best-known dishes are venison in adobo or tagarninas with beans.
As for the sweets, your mouth will water with the delicious pestiños or the oil cakes, among others.
If we look at the engines that move the economy, we can tell that it's closely linked to agriculture, especially related to livestock and oil production, giving job opportunities with the olive harvest.
On the other hand, rural tourism is increasingly on the rise, being able to stay within the town in different types of accommodation, to be able to rest in a peaceful environment.
We cannot ignore its parties, especially Las Candelas. It takes place at the beginning of February, where one of the most outstanding activities is the Paramotors Concentration, in which all kinds of activities are organized, including motor flights, bringing together a lot of people every year.
