Sourroundings of Albergue Zarza Capilla
In the surroundings of the beautiful and winding reservoir of La Serena, we find multiple places of interest of diverse nature:
To the south, and at the beginning of the neighboring province of Córdoba, is the Castillo de Madroñiz, a fortress built by the Arabs during the Andalusian occupation period between the emirate and the caliphate. This fortress had the function of protecting the passage of commercial caravans in the direction of Toledo through the Abdallah Corridor that started from the plasterwork of Almadén.
In the central part of the reservoir, just north of the location of the accommodation, we find several viewpoints, that of Masatrigo located on an island of land that rises above the waters and in which abundant vegetation grows around the bridge that cross over him; On the north bank is Mirador de la Galizuela, which, unlike the previous one, is proposed as an excellent celestial viewpoint, since it has no population centers or artificial lighting systems nearby for kilometers around, in addition to being a flat land where nothing hinders the observation of the night sky.
Going in northwest direction, we can find the Playa Isla del Zujar, a perfect enclave to enjoy a relaxing bath at times of the year when the heat is pressing.
