Villanueva de Valrojo is a small town of 128 inhabitants belonging to the province of Zamora, located at sierra de la Culebra, a protected natural area originally plagued with chestnuts and oaks that were later cut down and replaced by conifers. In these forests you can find different species of deer and the Iberian wolf, in danger of extinction.
In this same sierra, there are several Celtic castros belonging to the Iron Age, although many of them were maintained throughout the Roman period until the High Middle Ages. Among these enclaves, highlights Peña Valdemera, one of the oldest and best preserved.
Nearby is the natural park lake Sanabria. This is the largest glacial lake in the peninsula, since it has 318 hectares. This park is full of raptors among which are the eagle, the honey buzzer, the buzzard buzzer and the kestrel vulgar.
