Description of Albergue Selene
This hostel is located within the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada (bordering the national park) in the municipality of Abrucena Almeria, surrounded only by extensive fields with nature where to carry out activities.
It's the great place to go with kids. Especially families, groups and schools that want to spend a few days in a quiet environment and where they can learn and have fun, or better said, having fun.
It has a capacity for 42 people. Expandable with extra beds up to 54 seats.
And some of the rooms as well as the bathrooms are adapted for people with disabilities.
The complex consists of 2 buildings: one with bedrooms, bathrooms, dining room and kitchen, and another annex in which there are several thematic rooms where workshops. That may be astronomy, biology, crafts ... All equipped with the appropriate materials for it.
We also have a spacious room to perform other activities and meetings in which we have incorporated a large television.
In addition to a living room with fireplace, books and very interesting documentation.
The indoor and outdoor play areas are not lacking, among which we find a climbing wall.
We have pool and organic garden. Both buildings are equipped with heating, hot water, fireplaces and biomass stoves.

My name is Mara, I am the hostel manager, an enthusiastic person of nature and the countryside. I like to lead a healthy life and working in this environment of the Sierra Nevada is a privilege.
I have a team of environmental educators since our beginnings in 1998, the main objective of our company being to make known this environment of the Sierra Nevada, making leisure, educational and entertainment programs.
We are convinced that knowing and learning about the environment leads us to respect and protect it.

What the owner pinpoints on the property
I would highlight the place where it is quiet and healthy, the landscapes, the direct contact with nature. In addition to some fantastic nights to observe the stars.
The architecture of the hostel is worth mentioning, integrated and respecting the environment. It is an old farmhouse that was rehabilitated with the typical materials of the area, stone walls (shales) and roofs of launa. Inside we can savor the tradition and taste for the legacy of our ancestors; as in its exteriors with the old era, the paratas and the farmhouse raft.
What to do in its surroundings?
It offers a wide range of offers for sports activities such as hiking with routes of all levels and some sections of the Sulayr (GR that runs through the Sierra Nevada), routes for mountain bikes, climbing schools, descents with abseiling, or simply walking.
From here you can make ascents to some of the Sierra Nevada summits of Almeria, such as La Polarda, El Almirez, El Buitre, El Chullo.
Regarding visits of interest we can visit nearby towns such as Ohanes and enjoy its terraced landscape of the old table grape crops; In addition to its Alpujarra architecture. Other nearby towns of interest are Abrucena, Abla and Fiñana with some Roman and Arab monuments.
And how not, we can not forget the traditional and homemade food of this region, crumbs, porridge, fried cheese, empedrao, pipirrana. As well as their sweets: donuts, gypsy arms, asleep bread, donuts.
Other excursions that can be programmed are:
* The theme park "Oasis" (former Mini-Hollywood), 40 km. There are shows and decorations from the west, plus a zoo.
* The caves of Sorbas, 70 km. With caving routes through the interior of this Karstic complex, one of the most important in Europe.
* The Natural Park of Cabo de Gata, 82 km. With beaches of great natural value and with crystal clear waters. Great for scuba diving, kayaking or boat trips.
• The tourist towns of Guadix (30 km.), And the capitals of Granada (120 km.) And Almería (70 km.) Along the A-92.
