Sourroundings of Castillo del Mar
Almuñécar is a port with more than a thousand years of history. In it we can enjoy all kinds of cultural and outdoor activities, where we can highlight:
- The ancient Roman fortress , of great importance also in Nasrid period in the thirteenth century. It was reformed by Fernando el Católico and Carlos V and, in fact, the four circular towers of its entrance façade date from this last reform.
- Cueva de los Siete Palacios Archaeological Museum : it was built in the basements of an ancient Roman temple, honoring the Latin goddess Minerva back in the 1st century BC. Its name comes from its seven vaulted sections.
