Villanueva de Aerzcoa, also known by its name in Basque Hiriberri, is a small town of 113 inhabitants located in the Aezkoa Valley. This valley is encased between the Pyrenean mountains and is dotted with small villages with houses with white walls and inclined roofs to slip the snow. Its inhabitants jealously keep the manufacturing process of a sheep cheese that is famous throughout the community.

Near this valley is the Sierra de Abodi, a chain of mountains in which the Dolmen of Gibele is located, testimony of the Paleolithic man's passage through these mountains.
