La Casita del río

This charming rural house that is located in the town of Cigüenza, in the heart of the region of Las Merindades, in the province of Burgos.

It has a maximum capacity of 5 people so it is perfect to spend a holiday with family or with a small group of friends.

The house has been recently restored and we have tried to accommodate it in such a way that you do not miss anything. We have opted for a decoration that combines old and original elements with the comforts of modern life, this way we have achieved a warm and welcoming atmosphere that invites you to rest.

The accommodation consists of 3 floors that communicate through a beautiful wooden staircase that goes to the attic.


On the ground floor you'll find:

• A modern fully equipped kitchen with ceramic hob, fridge, washing machine, microwave ... All the utensils you may need is included.

• The dining room, which consists of a dining table con their respective chairs, an auxiliary furniture for the television and 2 sofas de 2 and 3 seats with a coffee table located just in front of the fireplace. Surely you can not resist having a hot coffee in front of the fire while you watch the snow fall through one of the windows. We bet?

• A toilet with sink and sanitary.

The first floor is intended for the rest area, here we find:

• The 3 rooms: 2 with double bed and one single. All bedrooms (like the ground floor) have river views, you will appreciate the image as soon as you wake up. The decoration is simple but pleasant. In all rooms you will find cabinets to place your stuff in addition to a desktop where you can write your vacation experiences. On this floor there is also available a bathroom with shower.

On the second floor there is a attic that acts as a multi-purpose room. It is an ideal space for reading or games, in fact it often becomes the favorite place for children. The most striking of this room is the wall decorated in stone that gives it a rustic feel but without losing the essence of the modern. Here you will find a 3-seater sofa, wooden shelves and a folding desk very useful for the little ones and for those who by obligation (or addiction) have to take the work of vacations.

From this room you can access the terrace, which faithfully maintains its original appearance, and which you will use a lot in summer because who needs a restaurant when you can enjoy a barbecue outdoors with beautiful views of the river on your own home? And if you are not a quiet grilled meat, there is also a great old bread oven rehabilitated where you can prepare recipes of a Michelin chef.

La Casita del Río is in a very situation since its own environment is a place of natural beauty but it also allows you to access other tourist points of interest such as:

• The Cuevas de Ojo Guareña are located in the municipality of Merindad de Sotoscueva, north of the province of Burgos, although currently the only cave open to the public is La Cueva and Ermita de San Bernabé. This hermitage is located in the heart of the natural monument of Ojo Guareña. Inside is a chapel with a ceiling full of cave paintings. It is a very curious monument to see, both your family and you will love it.

• Gorge of the Hocines: Impressive gorge f ormado by the river Ebro when entering the Valley of Valdivielso that has served throughout the history comlo way of communication of the Merindades. Hide a rich flora composed of holm oaks, junipers, gall oaks, strawberry trees, accents, beeches and oaks and you can also see some animals that in other landscapes are not as easy to see as eagles (either Bonelli, short-toed or real), vultures, Egyptian vultures and real owls.

• Waterfall of the Pisces: Wonderful succession of waterfalls staggered that is surrounded by the darkness of an enchanted forest in which grow beech, oak, hazel and holly. If you are lucky enough to visit this place during the melting season or heavy rains, you will see a difficult spectacle to forget.

• Commonwealth Roots of Castilla: Do not forget to visit this commonwealth formed by the municipalities of Oña, Pozas de la Sal and Frías. Each of them is a charming place that will captivate you for your own reasons. As much as we describe them, the best thing is for you to discover their magic yourself.
