El Sotámbanu

We offer our guests a rural house that is located in the small village of Arangas, belonging to the Asturian council of Cabrales, in the Picos de Europa.

It is a 2-story building that follows the traditional Asturian architecture (stone and wood), as well as a covered porch (which was once the stable) next to the main construction, with a garden table and chairs.

We have the capacity to accommodate 4 people in the 2 rooms that we have on the first floor (one has a double bed and the other is equipped with 2 single beds). Each room has a full bathroom and impressive viewpoints to the outside.

On the ground floor we find a living-dining room (equipped with a wood-burning fireplace, a collection of board games and a flat-screen television), as well as an open-plan kitchen attached to this space that has all the necessary elements during your stay.

Therural accommodation has recently beenrestored and the old wooden beams on the roof that support the foundations of the construction have been left visible.

We put at your disposal baby cot (upon request) and also maps and guides of the surrounding area so that you can organize excursions and locate the most important points of interest.

The village of Arangas is located at the foot of the Sierra de Cuera (its highest peak is Pico Turbina), a perfect place to spot birds such as falcons or goshawks.
A few kilometers away we find the Picos de Europa National Park, which is part of the Cantabrian Mountains and is mainly composed of oak and beech forests and is the natural habitat of animals such as the brown bear, deer, wild boar, capercaillie, etc.
In the Cabrales region, buildings from the Romanesque and Renaissance periods stand out, such as the Palace of Cernuda or the Palace of Navariego (both from the 17th century). It is also the place where the famous Cabrales cheese is made (with a blue paste and strong flavor).

Another interesting town on the coast is Llanes, which apart from standing out for its beautiful beaches, has interesting monuments such as the Basilica of Santa María de Concejo (with a Romanesque façade and Gothic interior), the Cuevas del Bolado (important archaeological remains have been found here) and "Los Cubos de la Memoria", a sculptural work in the port of the town, by the artist Agustín Ibarrola.
